You accidentally drop your toothbrush in the toilet, and find that the cat has yarfed in your shoes. You get to work to discover that a deadline has been pushed forward by a month and you have a ton of work due by end of day. How do you feel? Anxious? Stressed? Numb? Ready to throw your desk out the window and scream at your subordinates until you’re hoarse and they’re weeping?

There’s a spray for that….

The geniuses at The Antidote for Ego have created a series of aromatherapy mists to combat even the worst wretched mood  you might experience.

With “The Antidote for Ego” signature anti-bad mood spray, there’s a gorgeous mixture of lavender, orange, black pepper and bay leaf: a combination that calms the nerves, lifts the spirit, and combats gargantuan levels of douchebaggery. It allows the sniffer to reconnect with self, feel empathy for one’s fellow living creatures, and realise that they’re not the centre of the known universe.

Aggressive” is best used to combat the hostility that bubbles up in micro-managing control freaks with its calming, clarifying blend of cedar, grapefruit, frankincense and rose geranium. It’s really, really hard to stay angry after smelling this—whatever caused the ugly feelings to begin with seems to just not matter anymore. It makes one just want to pick up a guitar and sing about butterflies and lilies and stuff.

One emotion (or lack thereof) that is far too prevalent these days is apathy, and guess what? They’ve made a spray for that too. “Apathy” is comprised of grapefruit, rosemary and lavender: three scents that work in tandem to wake the senses and snap the emotion centre back into working order. It’s also great for increasing concentration when studying for exams that one would otherwise not give a damn about.

Finally we come to my personal favourite: “Passive”. I’m absolutely not a passive-aggressive person, but I am passive to an extent—procrastinating at times, not taking action when I should do so, etc. This spray blends jasmine, bay laurel, orange and ylang-ylang that’s both calming and encouraging, and smells like absolute heaven. This is the spray I hose my office with when I have 50 articles due by end of day and all I want to do is curl up under the bed with a jar of peanut butter and my stuffed bunny.

I’ve never delved too deeply into the subtle nuances of aromatherapy, but after experiencing really solid changes of mood using these sprays, I must admit to being interested in learning more about how scent affects emotion, focus, and our well-being as a whole.

I’m skeptical since I’m and friends of mine are scent sensitive. This might make you feel better, while making other feel 100 times worse.
