Rawsome Vegan Baking: Review + Giveaway

Rawsome

A day without a sweet treat is a very sad day in my world. And while I rarely make raw desserts, I was delighted at the opportunity to review Emily von Euw’s first book, Rawsome Vegan Baking. If you follow her beautiful blog, This Rawsome Vegan Life, you know that she has a knack for creating delectable raw treats from wholesome ingredients. Layered cakes, sandwich cookies, peanut butter cups, fruit tarts…

First off, the photography is absolutely enticing. Flipping through the pages marking recipes will leave you wondering how it’s even possible to not make every single treat in one go. I had a difficult time narrowing my picks down to three recipes for this review. But I managed! Let’s get started, shall we?

I have a weakness for chocolate and peanut butter, so these Chocolate Nut Butter Cups caught my attention immediately. They couldn’t be easier to make and the rich, homemade dark chocolate shell complements the creamy center nicely. I sprinkled cacao nibs and coarse sea salt over the tops, as suggested in the recipe. I also made my batch in cupcake liners, making them big enough to share with fellow sweets enthusiasts.

Next, I opted for the Rawdical Raisin Cacao Cookies with Oats – a twist on traditional oatmeal raisin cookies. I was surprised at how yummy these nutritious cookie balls were, especially straight out of the fridge. They are the perfect size for a pre or post workout treat. I am planning on making a batch to bring along on my next hiking excursion as an alternative to granola bars.

And of course, I saved the best, most elaborate treat for last. What you see above is also featured on the cover of the book: Triple-Threat Chocolate Cake with Avocado Cacao Ganache & Chocolate Ginger Sauce. It’s a mouthful for sure. I was intimidated. Some convincing from a friend encouraged me to go for it. While there are several steps and a dose of patience involved, the end result is well worth the time and effort. I mean, it’s CAKE! Chile and ginger powders add a subtle kick of spice and avocados deliver much-needed healthy fats. Make this for someone special.

If you love sweets, you’ve got to get yourself a copy of this book. I see myself spending more time in the kitchen next week so I can make all the other recipes I marked.
